Cyclone Restoration

Extremely Sever Cyclone ‘FANI’, hit Odisha State on 3rd May, 2019 affecting 11 districts. Severely damaged districts reported are Puri, Khurda including the capital city Bhubaneswar, Kendrapara and Jagatsingpur of Odisha. The storm demolished almost all thatched and kuchha houses, damaged assets and daily household needs, have blown away the old pucca buildings, uprooted thousands of trees, 1.5 lakhs electricity pools, damaged over 5000 educational and 1000 health institutions, and left the localities with deserted look. According to media report, the death toll rose to 50 including women and children and many injured are admitted in different hospitals in Odisha. The devastation has demolished power supply; darkness all around. However, a recent update on FANI is attached for your kind reference.

We (UTKAL NEEDS) as an organization working with the most vulnerable in Odisha are concerned about the affected people including the women and children due to FANI. Emergency response team from UTKALNEEDS along with team of volunteers is closely working on the situation. We see one of our immediate responsibilities is to help the affected with basic needs, and plan for livelihoods restoration of these affected people. Your support is critical at this juncture and we appeal to generously extend your helping hand to ensure most affected victims are provided minimum livelihood support and enable us to plan for the rehabilitation of people whose livelihoods and property have suffered a catastrophic damage.

IMMEDIATE NEEDS

Around 8000 worst affected families need temporary shelter materials, dignity kit for women, survival kit, and water body cleaning net are of high need now.

INR 1500 can help provide with a Temporary Shelter Kit to an affected family.
INR 1200 can procure a Survival Kit for a cyclone victim family.
INR 600 can support a Woman victim with a Dignity Kit.
